Isaiah 54:17 ESV
No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”.

God the Protector of His People.

Psalms 124

1- What if the Lord had not been on our side?
Answer, O Israel!

2 “If the Lord had not been on our side
when our enemies attacked us,
3 then they would have swallowed us alive
in their furious anger against us;
4 then the flood would have carried us away,
the water would have covered us,
5 the raging torrent would have drowned us.”

6 Let us thank the Lord,
who has not let our enemies destroy us.
7 We have escaped like a bird from a hunter's trap;
the trap is broken, and we are free!
8 Our help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

PSALM 83 – GOD THE PROTECTOR OF HIS PEOPLE.

In Psalm 82, we saw God portrayed as the Shepherd of His people. A shepherd has 2 main responsibilities which are providing for the sheep and protecting the sheep. Here in Psalm 83, His protection is being emphasized.

Many times, when we are being atacked by others, we conclude that God isn’t in control or doesn’t care about our plight. That is why the psalmist starts out in verse 1 with these words, “O God, do not be silent! Do not ignore us! Do not be inactive, O God!” There are many reasons why God may not immediately act, but we can be sure that the God of the Bible is neither distant nor disinterested in what is happening to His people. In fact, in this song of Asaph, this truth becomes very clear. An attack on God’s people is an attack on God Himself.

In verses 2-8, the psalmist recounts the dangers all around and closing in on God’s people. But in verses 9 – 12, Asaph also recalls the action that God took in the past on behalf of His people. His pleas for God to act once again on behalf of His people is not a selfish request alone. It is so that the enemies of God’s people would come to know the reality of God maybe the only way they can at this point – in judgment. The purpose behind the judgment is that they might turn to Him in faith and believe. We must understand this truth as well. Even in judgment, the One and only God reveals Himself to men. In every situation and season of life, may we discover what the pslamist had discovered in verse 18, “Then they will know that you alone are the Lord, the sovereign King over all the earth.”

Whether we are the one being atacked or the one doing the attacking, one day we will both come to that same conclusion concerning god. If you are a follower of God and today your are being oppressed and attacked by others, be strengthened in Him and know that He is the protector of His people.

For His glory,
