Examine Yourself Before Taking Communion?

Examine Yourself Before Taking Communion?

The Bible tells us that we need to take a good, long look at what is going on in our hearts when we partake in the Lord’s Supper. “Let a person examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup,” Paul told the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 11:28).

In Corinth this intended act of “communion” with the Lord had become a thoughtless and even selfish church ritual. Their minds had clearly shifted from Christ’s substitutionary sacrifice and had wandered elsewhere.

We must not ever let that happen to us. We must stay mentally engaged when we partake of these elements. They have been ordained to soberly remind us of the high cost of God’s forgiveness (1 Peter 1:18–19). Eating and drinking them vividly depicts our union and solidarity with Christ as our Savior, Lord and Source of spiritual life (1 Corinthians 10:16).

We should also take the time to examine ourselves to ensure that our relationship with Christ is authentic and genuine. Not only recalling the inauguration of our relationship with Christ, but also seeking to discover if there is any unconfessed sin impeding our current fellowship with God (1 John 1:6–9).

Lastly, we would be remiss to ingest these symbols of Christ without a heart that is purposefully thankful. Paradoxically, the Lord’s Supper is not only a reminder of his brutal death, but it is also a celebration of the incredibly generous grace of God and the invaluable privilege of being forgiven.

1-In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads: Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. ... for they shall see God Matthew 5:8.

There are many Bible verses discussing the heart because God’s word is clear that the condition of your heart is critical in your walk with the Lord. Memorize these important verses, and they will always be on your heart!

2-Matthew 6:21
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

3-Proverbs 3:5
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

4-Proverbs 4:23
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

5-.Romans 12:2
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

6-Proverbs 23:26
26 My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways,

7-Psalm 51:10
10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

No where in bible scriptures does it say we're to wear white or black and white. For this is a man made tradition or a man made ordnance that cannot be found in scripture, but we're told to get our hearts in order for this THE LORD'S SUPPER.For many take ,and they remain the same ,and there's no change to show that they're of God ,but Paul mentions this " King James Bible
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils 1 Corinthians 10:21.
